| Short Synopsis: | The briefing for this score was to create a sophisticated, instrumental electronic track that has a sense of momentum and journey. A textural analog warmth. A polyrhythmic track that will help create a hypnotic sense of journey. The track needs a sense of journey as per the refs, and defines the country and city worlds. We needed to create a strong musical shift into the city world. Representing the two sides the car has. The family car on the one hand as well as being a modern business oriented city car. We wanted to play with hearing the music diegetically, through the speakers in the car, and feeling the cocoon of the interior as we zoom into the interior. The challenge was to have all those moments breathe and have space musically. We wanted to contrast all the different parts of the journey to showcase the flexibility of the car. We did this by using straight rhythms and warm chords. Rather than using the piano as an harmonic instrument we used it very rhythmically and treated it more like a percussion instrument than a harmonic one. This created a very organic pulse to the composition. For the warmth and harmonic parts of the score we chose to use analogue synthesizers and have them play simple and warm chords. Showing the listener that even when something is electric it can still be warm and emotional. |
