Short Synopsis: | The song is Yaki Imo, by French musician Guillaume Poncelet and the video is a creation of reputed director James F Coton, featuring the performance of contemporary dancer Sarah Abicht from La Horde. This is the storyline of the video: In this vibrant and high-energy new music video, James F. Coton questions the idea of perfection on many levels with the performance of contemporary dancer Sarah Habicht from La Horde. We are all searching for perfection, but it might be where you don’t think it is. Sometimes we have distorted patterns like marriage or family. As the heroine sees a painting of a Yaki imo, with one open potato in the center, a dish that is not aesthetically beautiful but has a perfect taste, she has this spark. She wants to break the conventional perfection around her, to look for something else, expressing herself through the art of movement. As the music grows, the family shows its realness: stories, cries, love, tears. This reality of it is also what makes its beauty, and it all adds up in perfection. Yaki imo: 焼き芋 grilled sweet potato in Japanese. This piece is a tribute to the street-food vendors on the island of Okinawa in Japan who offer this much-loved specialty. “Yaki imo” evokes this idea of reaching the perfection of execution through repetition of the gesture and tackles the idea of attaining freedom. |
