Short Synopsis: What drives the human race to outer space?
The cosmos undoubtedly pushes human boundaries—physically, mentally, and spiritually—and curiosity is a key element that drives new generations to go faster, longer, and further than the one before.

Through their work, the members of the Karman Community are challenged and inspired by the "great unknown"—standing on the shoulders of giants to discover what’s next. The relentless pursuance of answers is an important and intoxicatingly dangerous human trait. As each century brings with it new challenges, scientists are now looking to artists to imagine creative ways to solve today’s biggest questions.

Space travel has provided us with a wealth of knowledge about the universe and ourselves. Since the space race, the world has benefitted from what NASA calls “spin-off” technology—consumer goods and devices that have made our lives on Earth easier. Ear thermometers, wireless headsets, freeze-dried foods, baby formula, memory foam, LED technology, portable computers… All of these things, and more, were developed as part of the research programs dedicated to sending a person into space. For better or worse, history has proved there are no limits to our dreaming.
Inspired by the infinite exploration of our universe by renowned astronauts, the director want viewers to experience the rush of diving into the dark expanse of space to learn more about the universe and ourselves.

The film serves as an opportunity to think about the necessity of humans shifting from the spectator role of the Anthropocene into the actor role towards a more positive future. It introduces the series of ‘Return to Earth’ interviews as part of the documentary film experience The Space That Makes Us Human.
